Then it would have gone back into development, again, at which point everyone would have already gave up on it. This is a good thing, no? This tells us that had the game came out earlier this year, like it was originally planned, it would not have been well received. They basically revamped the entire story, voices, models, zones, etc. Probably because it, you know, worked incredibly well the first time around? There are hundreds of EA success stories so it's really no surprise that it's becoming normalized.įrom what I understand, they have made tons of revisions and iterations based off of early access players' feedback, and obviously nobody is forcing you to play it in EA. Playing each major version of the story has been a cool ride, so it's a little sad that most people won't get to see the direction the story was going before the changes. So not only is the story completely different, but the characters sound different too. Throughout EA they not only replaced the writers, but also the voice actors as well. You end up drop podding in from orbit to locate Sam, your long lost sister. The latest story revision makes it so that you aren't an Alterra employee at all, and there's no science lab beginning. Sam continues to help you throughout the story from orbit while other stuff happens to you involving some alien artifacts. At the time there weren't any other NPCs in the game, either, and most of the zones were totally unfinished/unimplemented.Īfter the first major story revision, the station never blows up. And presumably, Sam dies in this explosion. In the earliest version of the early access, something goes wrong and the science station explodes in the sky while you're watching it (when you would normally discover the rocket), leaving you well and truly stranded on the planet. A storm causes the habitat to be destroyed and you end up stranded in the nearby ocean, but Sam (living on the orbiting science station) sends a rescue pod down to you and promises support. In the original story, you were an Alterra employee working at a habitat on the planet, up on the ice shelf. /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creesch./r/gaming4gamers - middle ground between purely-for-fun and more serious subreddits./r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - Leaks and Rumors.Posting unmarked spoilers will result in removal and warning, and posting spoilers with malicious intent will result in a ban.
